Geological Engineering Study Program is one of the Study Programs at the Faculty of Earth and Energy Technology which was founded in 1980. The establishment of this Study Program was motivated by the large number of foreign experts in 1978 who worked for foreign oil companies in Indonesia, so it was felt necessary to carry out Indonesianization in Indonesia. these foreign companies. The establishment of this program was sponsored by a consortium of more than 40 oil companies under the coordination of PERTAMINA.

The Geological Engineering Study Program was first established with the Petroleum Engineering Study Program based on a joint charter between PERTAMINA and Trisakti University on July 7, 1979, and began operating in 1980/1981 under one department, namely Energy Engineering, which is part of the Faculty of Engineering.

In 2000, the Geological Engineering Study Program obtained accreditation status A based on the Decree of the BANPT Ministry of Education and Culture RIi No. 018/BAN-PT/Ak-IV/VII/2000 dated July 21, 2000. Furthermore, in 2005, the Geological Engineering Study Program obtained accreditation status B based on the Decree of the BANPT Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 022/ BAN-PT/Ak-IX/S1/XII/ 2005 On December 8, 2005 and the last in 2010 accreditation status B was obtained based on the Decree of BANPT Ministry of Education and Culture RI No. 028/BAN-PT/Ak-XIII/S1/XI/2010 dated November 14, 2010.

In 2020 Geological Engineering again received A accreditation based on the BAN-PT accreditation decree No. 4670/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/VIII/2020, with the achievement of this accreditation, the Geological Engineering Study Program is the only private Geological Engineering Study Program in Indonesia that is accredited A.

Currently in the DKI Jakarta area (KOPERTIS Region III), the Geological Engineering Study Program at Trisakti University is the only Study Program for the Geological Engineering field.
